SMT Training Courses & Implementation Services

A range of training courses and implementation services from industry veteran, Peter Grundy and his specialist consulting company, PG Engineering. The courses and services are designed to help increase efficiency through the use of sophisticated automation.

Machine Selection
A structured technique for evaluating and selecting equipment or machinery for production or test purposes. By defining an accurate user requirement specification, the most suitable possible candidate suppliers will be found. These will then be whittled down to three or four main contenders that will be evaluated in great detail, including the monitoring of on-site trials, with the end result being one clear optimum supplier emerging.
New Product Introduction (NPI)
A logical set of activities and processes that streamline and optimise the introduction of new products to a manufacturing cell or factory. The tasks are designed to cause minimum disruption to normal production and to use the volume production lines for NPI so that full production can be achieved as efficently as possible.
Design for Manufacture (DFM)
An introduction to concepts of Design For Manufacture. An assessment of the level of adherence to concepts. An introduction to new methods or design characteristics where beneficial. Includes the preparation of internal guides for operators and designers. Preparation of external guides for customer's own clients. Initiates continuous improvement regimes to ensure that all designs can be quickly and effectively put into production and achieve maximum yield without delay.
Technology Roadmapping
An introduction to new concepts of technology or production either to enhance existing facilities or to offer opportunities to expand into different arenas. This can also include the production of a roadmap that can be presented to the customer's clients so that they can develop with new technologies in mind.
New Technology Implementation
A systematic method of preparing a site for new technology required by design changes or product initiatives. New technologies can be materials or component led or be equipment led. An assessment can also be made of whether new technology for its own sake is worthwhile or not.
Lead-Free Manufacturing
A detailed description of the background legislation and its impact on manufacturers and their customers including materials and process issues. This can take the form of a one-day theoretical explanation or an implementation of Pb-free technology on site or both.
Lean Manufacturing
An exploration of the concepts and benefits of increased efficiency via "Lean Manufacturing" techniques. Cellular manufacturing and all supporting concepts are explored. This can take the form of a one-day theoretical explanation or an on-site implementation or both.

About PG Engineering

Peter GrundyPG Engineering was reformed in October 2003 to meet the needs of companies seeking automation or an enhancement of existing facilities. Peter Grundy, its owner and founder, has many years’ experience of automating electronic assembly processes with major companies such as Siemens, DEK and Excellon.

Focusing on increased efficiency through the use of sophisticated automation, PG Engineering is able to provide a thorough insight into the use and incorporation of automation into all types of production environments, regardless of size and scope.

Companies may have very skilled engineers and specialists but not enough time to investigate new processes and technologies. The engineers on a company’s payroll are fully committed to their daily tasks and usually have no time for extra activities. PG Engineering can supply temporary extra resources and provide a broader view of production.

Tasks such as Market Research, New Product Introduction, Factory Efficiency Assessment and Improvement, Design for Manufacture Strategies, Technology Roadmapping, and Production Consultancy can be undertaken without disturbing the normal running of a factory environment.
